The Miracle of Cheetos

So for the last 3 months, every time I go to my ob/gyn appointment, it has been QUITE the experience. Of course I always have Jacob and Callie to take along with me. This is a new office for me. I had a different doctor for my other 3 kids, but our insurance changed and I had to choose a new doctor. Sad, except that I knew I wouldn't be delivering here at the end. Anyways, EVERY time I go, the kids do fine playing in the waiting room and all the various stops (the lab, the bathroom (for the lovely specimen), the nurse "interview" questions, etc. Then it all comes to a screeching halt when I get to the exam room. Callie has always completely gone hysterical. Literally every time. Shaking and crying as soon as I'm up on the table. The first time I went, I thought it was because she wanted to be with me, so I held her on my lap. Nope - that wasn't it. She was just totally freaked out. My only guess is that she's worried that something terrible is going to happen to me. Last month, she actually climbed under the chair screaming crying until I sat up. Then she signed "all done" and was fine.

Well, today I brought a bag of cheetos (I bought them for our special surprise tomorrow) for both of the kids and didn't pull them out until we got into the exam room. They both sat down and happily crunched away. When the doctor came in for my tummy check, Callie stood up to watch him VERY carefully, but still munched away. It was amazing! Even the doctor got a kick out of it (of course he remembers the SCREAMING child that comes every month to his office!). So it was very successful!

Oh, and on another positive note, baby is doing great. He is the MOST active baby I've ever had - he is moving around and kicking at 23 weeks like my other kids were doing at 30 weeks. it's nuts. When the nurse put the doppler on me to find his heartbeat, he started kicking away at her! Jacob thought it was hilarious - we determined that he was probably sleeping peacefully and she disturbed his sleep!!!

thats great, Katy!! I love hearing baby stories like that one (about baby #4)...I can't wait for my turn one of these days (or years). :) I keep having dreams that I am pregnant which is totally weird because we aren't trying and probably wont' until after Africa. I loved reading the story about Callie too..what a great little trick!! I'm going to have to remember that one. How far are you going to be from Charlotte when you move to SC?

I'm so glad things are going well with your pregnancy. I'll have to remember the Cheetos trick. We end up in the doctor's office all the time and lollipops worked for awhile, but their effectiveness is starting to wear off.

I'm sure you've found that snacks are a great way to make it through grocery shopping without strangling a child too! Jonathan likes to fight riding in the cart, but then walks at a snail's pace -- or cries because I refuse to carry him. Snacks get him int he cart and occupied!
Glad to hear everything is going well with the baby!

I think you've posted about the miraculous power of cheetos before...or was that Beth Moore? ;) So glad to hear that they calmed Callie for you. Sadie has gone with me to regular doctor appointments and I remember her freaking out when the nurse was just taking my pulse! She was fine as long as nobody was actually touching me...little girls just have it in them to be protective over their mommas, I guess:) I'm so glad that everything is going well with little Schrodt #4:)
BTW, the kitchen looks awesome! We like our "granite look" too:)

Well, what can I say, those are powerful little orange things. And then once they're gone, the finger lickin starts! I've been reading all your posts, just can't find the time to comment on blogs lately. So to catch up...love Callie's suit, I'm a huge fan of the board shirt - less sunscreen! I know your small group will miss you, they seem like a great group of people and sorry I missed the shower, looks like a fun time. Hope I got everything!
