Artichokes have a short season (spring...April I think)...and they are only grown in California. So sometimes the rest of us miss out totally, or get pretty pathetic ones. But one random day in September, we got these incredible artichokes that arrived and so you KNOW I couldn't pass it up! They were enormous - bigger than softballs. I paid a pretty penny for them, but they were WELL worth it!
